These Are The Things I Think About -- Dec 19th-25th

Be careful next time someone suggest you go dutch. This week on Dutch TV, the hosts of a show called “Test Rabbits” ate each other’s flesh. Curious to know what the other tasted like they both had a piece of muscle removed from their left butt cheek and abdomen. A chef then pan-fried the pieces infront of the studio audience…Creepy! I hear we taste like chicken

Early in the week we found out 2011's must have Christmas gift. In year’s past it was Tickle Me Elmo, well this time around it’s apparently a different redhead, Lindsay Lohan. Specifically the Lindsay Lohan issue of Playboy. Hitting store shelves the Friday before Christmas, parts of the US saw massive sellouts. Playboy also received re-orders from smaller cities for the first time ever, and subscription sales are up. It’s a Christmas miracle for Hugh Hefner…like he needs it.
--Lindsay did go as a blonde for the photo shoot by the way. All us fellow redheads are mad at her!--

In music, when it comes to Lady Gaga we now know who to blame. Donald Trump. Owning the Miss Universe Pagent, Donald says it was his choice to have Lady Gaga perform for it in 2008; hence he is responsible for starting the Lady Gaga phenomena. Of course these days Lady G’s success is almost as big as Donald Trumphs ego.

Here's something to make you shudder. Whoppi Goldberg has let it be known he used to be a phone sex operator. Doing it when she first started out in Hollywood, she says the money was great. …No word on how the phone sex was though...uuuggghh!

And finally, just so you know. Jessica Simpson is out with her new jewelry collection. She says the collection really reflects her. You can’t help but agree. Big diamonds on top, they are absolutely beautiful, and when looking at Jessica Simpson’s jewels you always wonder, are they real ;-)

--Oh P.S. Here's a cool tidbit for ya:
Turning to Bond, James Bond. Current “007” actor Daniel Craig is being pursued by the studio to sign on for 5 more movies. Already starring in 3, if he agrees it will make him the longest running James Bond of all time. Roger Moore currently holds the title. --By the way I am doing a James Bond survey. Lemme know who your favourite Bond is! Put in your vote on The Gilmore Fan Page on Facebook!

P.S.S.-- And the worst joke you will read today, guaranteed!
--Kim Jong Ill died, at the age of 69. In his honour he is being made into a Mr. Potato Head, you know, cause he was a real Dick-Tater... Booyah...So bad it's good

These Are The Things I Think About -- Dec 12th-18th

Well Fear Factor made its return to TV Monday. Joe Rogan-check, Gross out bugs-check…Obligatory challenge involving bikini wearing-check. Welcome back Fear Factor formula… Oh, a rare Triple F sequenced sentence….score 50 points!

Elsewhere from the entertainment world, Brooke Mueller headed to rehab and Charlie Sheen now plans to watch their kids in the meantime. This will certainly be a Christmas those kids will never forget...No matter how much therapy.

Talking Christmas, Wednesday was official “Re-Gifting Day”. Good ‘ole re-gifting, the perfect chance to pass off the bad Christmas sweater you got last year. Just remember the golden rule, don’t re-gift to the person who gave it to you… it gets awkward!

By the way, if you’re still looking for the perfect Christmas gift for the dirty old man in your life. Lindsay Lohan’s issue of “Playboy” came out Friday…hey, just trying to help you out here.

Also as we head toward the end of the year, Time Magazine has named The Protestor as the 2011 person of the year. Lame Time Magazine, real lame. Ironically, you almost feel like protesting their choice.

And finally, announced this week, a new reality series about Clint Eastwood's family is in the works. Focusing on his wife and daughters, Clint will make cameos!…I hear when approached about the project Clint’s reply was “Go ahead film my days…Punk!” …(That actually does work well when said in a good Dirty Harry voice...just sayin'..)

-Gilmore

--Oh P.S. Here's this week's weirdest fact: Strange but true, Police in Los Angeles say tubas are being stolen in record numbers. Seems they are a hot commodity on the black market. I’m serious, look it up!

P.S.S.-– This weeks coolest fact (no pun intended):
According to Environment Canada a septillion snowflakes fall on Canada every year. A septillion is the number 1 followed by 24 zeros. That's a lot of snowflakes! Of course a minus 1 followed by 24 zeros, is the temperature parts of Canada hit come February. ;-)

These Are The Things I Think About -- Dec 5th-11th

Lots happened in Music this week. On Monday, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced. The 2012 class includes Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys. This year’s induction ceremony goes in April. Among those passed over this year were The Cure, Joan Jett, Heart, and War…Especially tough for them as I hear they’d already polished up the Low Rider for the ceremony.

Elsewhere, with Christmas approaching, Linkin Park are asking for 10 dollar donations to purchase solar powered light bulbs for those without power in Haiti this holiday season. A great cause. Hats off to Linkin Park… however, “solar powered light bulbs”… doesn’t that phrase belong in a newfie joke?!...just sayin'

In the entertainment world this week, Harry Potter died*… Oh wait, wait, wait…It was Harry Morgan, who played Colonel Potter on MASH, who died…Whoops. Harry passed away Wednesday, the long time actor was 96**.

They’ve crunched the numbers, this year to buy all the items in “The 12 Days of Christmas” it would cost you just over 101 thousand dollars. The most expensive item being 7 swans a-swimming, they come in at $6300… However, face it, going to see 9 ladies-a-dancing could get pretty pricey too.

And finally, a new survey is out says 10% of women admit they can’t keep a secret…Of course this survey also proves 90% of women are liars… ha! ;-)

- Gilmore

--P.S. *-got the joke from my desk neighbour at work. All credit, or boos to them.
**-Famous folk die in 3’s. The other two were Dobie Gray & Barbara Orbison, 23 years to the day after husband Roy Orbison.

These Are The Things I Think About -- Nov28th-Dec 4th

We kicked off the week with “Cyber Monday”, the internet version of “Black Friday”. A day you could shop online for huge deals. Plus you avoid the Pepper Spray, Gunshots and Tramplings traditional Black Friday shopping offers...Oh yeah, and being able to shop in your gitch is always a bonus!

In sports, the Toronto Maple Leafs proved they indeed are the centre of the hockey universe. Once again, they are the most valuable franchise in the NHL…Deal with it haters!…The new list is out from Forbes, the Leafs are worth 521 million dollars. The New York Rangers are second and Montreal Canadians are in at 3rd. And you know Gary Bettman would somehow argue Phoenix is doing better then all of them…. Go Leafs Go!

Up next beer. Remember Hanson?…sadly we do. Well, the former boy band brothers are coming out with their own beer. And, ripping off the title of their biggest hit, they are calling the beer “MMMhop”….I hear just like their music, the Hanson beer will be weak and unpalatable*.

And finally, it was on Tuesday’s date 36 years ago the term ‘Micro-soft’ first appeared. It was in a letter from Bill Gates to company co-founder Paul Allen...You’d think it would be about the business. But, I hear it was actually about a hot date gone horribly wrong... Zing!

-Gilmore

--P.S. Little extra this week from some useless trivia I learned:
Where is the windiest place on earth?…The correct answer is Antarctica.
..And all this time I was certain it was the bathroom at Taco Bell!

P.S.S. --(*-unpalatable, good word!)

These Are The Things I Think About -- Nov 21st-27th

US Thanksgiving was this Thursday. Experts say in their Thanksgiving meal alone, the average American ate over 3,000 calories and 90 grams of fat…the equivalent of 16 slices of greasy pizza….Perhaps we should change the name of Black Friday to Fat Friday.
Oh yeah, seems after a few more incidents this year, folks getting trampled Black Friday shopping has now officially become an annual tradition… God Bless America…

Of course holiday shopping is in full swing, and this year you can buy Jersey Shore Christmas ornaments. Yep, Hang Snooki from your tree for only $5.99…That is, if you haven’t already hung yourself after reading the last 2 sentences…Seriously!, Jersey Shore ornaments, kill me now.

Entertainment News, Sylvester Stallone and 2 former boxing champs are producing a musical version of "Rocky. It will premiere in of all places Germany next November…And here we thought the Germans only loved David Hasselhoff.

The National Enquirer claims Paula Abdul hired a rabbi, a priest, a minister, and a witch doctor to cleanse her home of evil spirits. Story sounds ridiculous, but, also like a great set up for a joke: So listen a rabbi, minister, priest & witch doctor walk into Paula Abdul's house…the rest practically writes itself!

Pakistan officials have come out with a list of over 11 hundred English words they feel should be banned from text messaging. Not sure exactly how you ban words from texts; But, highlights from their list include, “breast”, “flatulence”, “bullcrap”, and my personal favourite “monkey crotch”...cause you know it comes up in conversation so often... I say text “monkey crotch” to someone tonight, just for kicks.

In Sports, with the Green Bay Packers sitting 11-0 in their football season, a new survey out says 89% of people view Quarterback Aaron Rodgers favourably. Conducted in the Packers home state of Wisconsin, only a few things scored higher: Abraham Lincoln, Jesus…and I’m guessing Cheese.

And finally, experts are saying forget all about the idea of 6 degrees of separation. Nope, sorry Kevin Bacon, but because of facebook we are now just 4.7 people away from anyone else in the world. Kinda cool, we are just 4.7 people away from someone awesome! On the flipside we’re now that much closer to total douchebags… (refer to story 3 if having a hard time figuring out what a total douchebag is)

-Gilmore

--Oh P.S. Missed last week, here is your highlight from Nov 14th-20th:
Black Sabbath guitarist Geezer Butler came out saying Ozzy Osbourne used to have cocaine for breakfast.
Quote -“We used to have cereal boxes full of cocaine brought to us. It was like living in the film Scarface."- Interesting….say hello to my little Cheerio bowl!

...yeah that was the highlight :-P

P.S.S. --Cool movie news to finish off with:
The story continues Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Martin Scorsese may team up for another mafia movie (including Al Pacino too). It would be called "The Irishman", and based on a real life hit man. How cool is this!
By the way, one of my
Gilmore theories --it’s not a real mob movie unless Joe Pesci gets whacked--

These Are The Things I Think About -- Nov7th-13th

Dude looks like a kids doll. Among other celebrities, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is being turned into a Cabbage Patch Kids doll. All for charity auction, the cabbage patch dolls are being sold on eBay. Very realistic, I hear due to Steven’s recent bathroom fall his doll will have removable teeth…the accessory scarf full of drugs, sold separately….

According to a survey about TV commercial characters, we remember the Jolly Green Giant the best. In more Jolly Green Giant news I hear his lawsuit with Santa over who owns the phrase "hohoho" continues… Oh, didn’t like that one?! ...I hear the Jolly Green Giant’s lawsuit with a 70’s Pimp over who owns the phrase "hohoho" continues… Good luck to the Jolly Green Giant

Elsewhere, VH1’s "Metal Show" aired a new interview with Axl Rose Friday. Of course, this assuming Axl actually showed up for the taping of the interview. Those who didn’t catch it the first time, be warned, to see all of Fat Axl in the interview you will need to watch on a wide screen TV.

And finally, Irish airline Ryan Air has announced they plan to air porno on their flights. A spokesperson says the porn will be pay per view and available to travelers on hand held devices…

…Porno and hand held; Not the first time those two have been used in the same sentence…
…You know some travelers are gonna have their hands full…
...For most utilizing the service it won't be their first time involved with one handed porn watching...
…Ryan Air calls it their “Mile High Club for Singles” service…

Come on, with a story like this, It would have been wrong NOT to throw in a bad joke or two.

-Gilmore

--Oh, my P.S. this week is something personal...

Useless Gilmore fact: Farts are Funny!..It’s just a fact of life I’ve long believed..(look it up, I even mention them in my work bio) Well I now have some legitimate back up. In a recent Rolling Stone article we were given this quote…

…"it's one of the funniest things in the history of mankind. Even the idea of a fart makes me laugh. Saying the word 'fart' makes me laugh. I have iFart on my phone. I have remote whoopee cushions. Farts. To me, there's nothing funnier."…

...And who is this quote from? -George Clooney
--Ha!, I knew we had more in common then just our hunky good looks!--

These Are The Things I Think About -- Nov1st-6th

Regis Philbin leaves "Live with Regis & Kelly" this month. His first fill in has been announced, Jerry Seinfeld. Jerry’s first appearance will be November 21st. I hear Jerry’s plan for the appearance is to do a "Live" show about nothing.

Lots happened this Thursday. It was official “Men Make Dinner Day”. Seriously, look it up. It was also on Thurdsay's date in 1718 the sandwich was invented....Coincidence?!….not sayin’ I’m just sayin’ ladies.

Hey, if you’re going to San Francisco anytime soon, don’t forget your pants. Apparently nude public dining has just been banned there due to concerns about hygiene. Of course we don’t dine in the nude in Canada, it due to concerns about frostbite.

And Dennis Miller turned 58 this week. Dennis Miller, one of the best comedians of all time. Of Course, That’s Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong…..But listen babe, doubt it.

H
ere's a little sample from his epic 1990 "Black & White" comedy special. Enjoy!

- Gilmore

--Oh P.S. Not that you need to be convinced, but 2 more items popped up this week confirming Nickelback sucks:

Exhibit A: According to a survey on dating website tastebuds.fm they are the most hated group in music.
Exhibit B: Fans of the Detroit Lions have started a petition. This to keep Nickelback from performing the halftime show at their annual Thanksgiving game against the Greenbay Packers.

Once again the people have spoken....

These Are The Things I Think About -- Oct 24th-31st

It was an interesting week to wrap up October.

A little closure for Amy Winehouse fans. It has been confirmed Ms. Crackhouse died this summer after consuming too much alcohol. How much? Over 5 times the legal limit, 5 times!!..Certainly enough to kill anyone, Amy’s death is officially noted as “death by misadventure”…if you had “smothered by Beehive” sorry, no dice.

More news from the music world, Paul McCartney is apparently converting to Judaism. His new wife Nancy is a practicing Jew and Sir Paul has told friends his conversion to the faith is underway. And, I hear he’s also changing titles of famous Beatles songs too…
A few examples: "All Together Now" will be come "All Kosher Now"…"Helter Skelter" will be renamed "Helter Chanuka"…"Hey Jude" is now "Hey Jew"

The World Series has wrapped up, and did you know, baseballs are weighed 5 times before being used in a World Series game. Yep, each weighed 5 times to make sure they’re up to spec…You gotta wonder if they do the same with the Umpires! BOO-YAH!!

And here’s a cool Guinness World Record, the “Largest Margarita Ever Made” has been created by non-other then Jimmy Buffet. All for the grand opening of his Casino in Las Vegas (really, Jimmy Buffet has a Casino?!)…The record setting Margarita was 31 feet tall, containing 8500 gallons worth of booze…They Amy Winehouse sized it!…What, too soon?!

Happy Halloween!! - Gilmore

--Oh P.S. Cassette Tapes are making a comeback. Remember, I called it years ago with Vinyl! Good or bad, mark my words on the Cassettes.

P.S.S.
--bonus points if you’re keeping score at home: those were all songs Paul wrote--

Balance has been restored to Leafs Nation!!, fully & completely

Well it has been 43 seasons since the Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup. Infact, thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks' Cup win in 2009-2010, the Leafs now sit as the NHL team with the longest Stanley Cup drought. It has been hard times for Leafs Nation.....Hard times indeed.

But...Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope...

If you haven't heard, wreckage from the Bill Barilko plane crash was recently recovered north of Cochrane, Ontario. Read the story HERE

The plane crashed all those years ago, and with it took the life of Toronto Maple Leafs player Bill Barilko. And, as the Tragically Hip song "50 Mission Cap" goes…following history…The last goal Bill scored won the Toronto Maple Leafs the Stanley Cup, and yes, the next Toronto Cup win would be in 1962, when Bill Barilko’s body was put to rest.

So now, THE plane from the Bill Barilko crash has been brought back to it's original home in Porcupine Lake. Think about this story for a second, and how it has unfolded. Do you get the feeling maybe, just maybe, this might be a sign? Could this event be signaling the end of the Cup drought in Toronto?

All of Leafs Nation have been hoping for something like this…An Omen if you will… Anything to get the Cup… Perhaps this could be it.

Are we seeing the last chapter of the story needed to bring the Cup back to Toronto?..Lets hope the Tragically Hip are ready for a new, additional verse to "50 Mission Cap".
Go Leafs Go!!

...A Year in the Life of a Guy....

Here's a little number stew for your brain to chew on. What does the average guy do in a year?.. We have 525,600 minutes a year to make the best of, here's the breakdown:

• Watching TV ... 47 days in total annually.
• Hungover ... 23 days.
• Eating & drinking ... 19 days.
• Surfing the Internet ... 14 days.
• Checking out women ... 11 days.
• Exercising and/or playing sports ... 6 days.
• Reading for pleasure ... 4 days.
• Volunteering ... 2 days.
• Having sex ... 7.7 hours, not counting foreplay.

No word on how 525,600 minutes a year breaks down for women, however I will venture time spent shoe shopping is high on the list!

Easter Monday with Weird Al & Lady Gaga!!

If an Easter Bunny can give us eggs, why can't Weird Al give us Lady Gaga music?!...These are the things I think about.
If you hadn't heard Weird Al has done a parody of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way". Long story short, at first Lady G's people told Weird Al he couldn't include the tune on his upcoming album. However, now (do to fan demand) it's been decided Weird Al has been given the OK.

Hooray for Weird Al..
Here's the tune:

Weird Al's new album comes out June 21st. By the way, if you want to see more of Weird Al doing his thing, follow THIS

And Saturday Night Live is lookin' like a good one. The host is Helen Mirren (her new movie with Russell Brand "Arthur" opens today by the way), and the Foo Fighters are the musical guest. Apparently in Hollywood it even pays to be a loser!

Oscars went Sunday, we found out who the big winners were (Reminder: view the winners list from yesterday's post below), but don’t feel bad for the losers. No in Hollywood, Oscar losers literally walk away with riches. Here is the list of goodies found in the Academy Award “consolation prize” bags handed out to non-winners on Monday.

Here we go…
An orbital space flight on Virgin Galactic ..it alone worth 200 thousand dollars!!
A four-night stay at a luxury resort in the Indian Ocean, featuring underwater spa
Black caviar eye and neck cream
A one-week “fitness and weight-loss” retreat from Live in Fitness
A pack of electronic cigarettes decorated with crystals
A fancy roll of “Shimmer” toilet paper... It's gold in colour I hear...
Use of a private island for five days, “including private houseman”
And finally “all natural” nasal spray

By the way, I crunched the numbers, the grand total value of the consolation gift bags $233,184.99 ...Yeesh, these folks lose an Oscar and still get a gift bag worth more cash then your house!... Ridiculous!!.....
P.S. Anyone know where I can by gold TP?! --Gilmore

Geddy Lee Awesomeness, & How to Beat the Winter Blues!!

Sooo Cold......Not sure about you, but this -30 crap can get lost anytime soon now! No denying we are in the dead of winter, folks are starting to feel pretty blah. I've mentioned a few tips on how to beat the winter blues. Below is the full list.....
Oh, and a little Geddy Lee of Rush awesomeness smack dab in the middle :-) Enjoy!

Beat the winter, and stay sane .....
• Turn your lights on as soon as your alarm goes off. It helps wake you up. Trying to get ready for work in the dark makes you stay sleepy and sluggish longer (and it increases your chance of steppin' on the cat!)
• Set your coffeemaker to turn on a few minutes before your alarm, wake up to the smell of coffee!
• The artificial light at work doesn’t hack it. Getting out, get some sunshine and fresh air during lunch. (Just make sure you bundle up!!)
• Pick a day a week to meet up with friends. Go for drinks, game night, whatever (makes the long winter go quicker...and "funnerer")

Here, take a break from reading with this video of Geddy Lee!!

More Beat the Winter Tips:
• Because of less sun, take a vitamin D supplement, it helps keep you from being bummed out.
• Re-decorate. A new look and some new colour at home can help cheer things up (stuck inside anyway, might as well enjoy the rooms you're stuck in)
• Don’t waste the limited daylight, get outside and enjoy winter.. snowmobiling, ice fishing, tobogganing (we've got all these and more here!!)...Don't forget to check out Geddy Lee's toboggan tips above!

Hope these help. Got any great Beat Winter tips? Lemme know! Email me HERE, you can also drop me a line on Facebook ---Gilmore

Something for the Canadian kids, and kids at heart!

Sad news, last Thursday composer Donald Himes passed away. Don't feel bad if the name doesn't ring a bell; I certainly had no idea who it was. But, I am very familiar with some of his work. If you grew up in Canada odds are you are too. Mr. Himes created the theme song for Mr. Dressup! Here it is for all to enjoy!

By the way Mr. Dressup is one of, if not, the greatest kid's show ever...Disagree? I may have to fight you! ;-)... It's really too bad today's kids are missing out on Mr. Dressup
