Well it has been 43 seasons since the Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup. Infact, thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks' Cup win in 2009-2010, the Leafs now sit as the NHL team with the longest Stanley Cup drought. It has been hard times for Leafs Nation.....Hard times indeed.
But...Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope...
If you haven't heard, wreckage from the Bill Barilko plane crash was recently recovered north of Cochrane, Ontario. Read the story HERE
The plane crashed all those years ago, and with it took the life of Toronto Maple Leafs player Bill Barilko. And, as the Tragically Hip song "50 Mission Cap" goes…following history…The last goal Bill scored won the Toronto Maple Leafs the Stanley Cup, and yes, the next Toronto Cup win would be in 1962, when Bill Barilko’s body was put to rest.
So now, THE plane from the Bill Barilko crash has been brought back to it's original home in Porcupine Lake. Think about this story for a second, and how it has unfolded. Do you get the feeling maybe, just maybe, this might be a sign? Could this event be signaling the end of the Cup drought in Toronto?
All of Leafs Nation have been hoping for something like this…An Omen if you will… Anything to get the Cup… Perhaps this could be it.
Are we seeing the last chapter of the story needed to bring the Cup back to Toronto?..Lets hope the Tragically Hip are ready for a new, additional verse to "50 Mission Cap".
Go Leafs Go!!
