Starting this time around with a look at this week in booze. A few interesting stories:
From our Canadian girls are tough file. Reports are a woman in Winnipeg was shot in the eye last weekend, AND she refused treatment until after she finished her beer. A tough prairie girl indeed.
A sad but kinda awesome story. A man in Scotland recently took his own life by jumping into a vat of Scotch at the Glenfiddich Distillery. Sad because he did drown. But, lets face it, if that’s how he really wanted to go, I say a confident accepting slow clap to him…Well played.
And talking Scotch…Ever wish you could buy it in a can… Now you can do just that. Yep, Scotch in a can.... GO HERE for deets!
Moving on, turns out more then just Germans love David Hasselhoff. So do Oceanographers. Recently discovering a new crab in the ocean, they are nicknaming it "The Hasselhoff". Why?, seems just like Dave, this new type of crab has a hairy chest. This does however pose the question, would you really want to have crabs named after you?…Just sayin'
Very cool news from AMC this week. The cable channel has confirmed a Goodfellas TV series is in the works! Based on the Martin Scorsese movie --arguably the best mob movie ever-- the show will prequel the movie. AMC's Goodfellas will be set in the 60s and follow the early life of Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta in the 1990 film)
--In honour of the movie, here are some cool links to check out: One Camera Shot, Joe Pesci's Oscar Speech, One Serious Pistol Whippin', I'm Funny How?!--
Finally, a few interesting notes from this week in entertainment history. It was 13 years ago Wednesday “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” debuted. Taking over for Craig Kilborn, you’ll agree Jon and the show haven’t looked back since.
Also on Wednesday’s date, it marked 20 years since “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana reached its peak at #6 on the charts. Yep, 20 years!...You feel old now, don't you?!... Little did we know in 1991, but the song would be very significant in usering in a new movement in rock music with the grunge/alternative scene. Also, here we are all those years later Dave Grohl recently had some inspirational words regarding Rock and Roll, quote: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with rock at all…right now the current musical climate is not unlike it was back in 1991, right before Nirvana got popular.” Dave adds “I feel like that’s about to happen again. Something’s got to give”…I agree. Infact, I have a whole personal theory music is set to undergo another big change the next few years. I'll save my theory for another day, but I will say it is nice to hear someone like Dave Grohl touching on this same idea. Long live Rock & Roll!
